What a busy Fall!

Wow, we've had a crazy Fall!
  • We welcomed several new boys into Pack 1014, many of them have already earned their Bobcat badge.
  • We now have 58 boys in Pack 1014!
We've had some great activities this Fall!
  • Popcorn Sales - we had a record-breaking sale this year, thanks to a lot of hard work by a lot of young men, congrats to all! All of the boys will receive at least one award for selling popcorn, some will get many prizes including a BB gun.
    Due to the success, for any boy that goes to summer camp, we'll provide him with a $50 credit.

  • Haunted Forest Camping Trip - 29 boys, 27 parents and 6 siblings braved the frigid weather - and had a fantastic time at D-bar-A Scout Ranch in Metamora in October. Boys shot BB guns, went on hikes, caught lots of fish, and much more.

  • Webelos 2 Camping Trip with Boy Scout Troop 1005 - 12 Webelos Scouts went camping with a local Boy Scout troop at D-bar-A the same weekend. As a second year Webelos Scout, boys are invited to camp with a Boy Scout troop, so they can learn all about Boy Scouts.

  • Scouting for Food was in November, we partnered with the Eastover Girl Scout troop and collected food and clothing for the less fortunate, it was a record-breaking performance.

  • Gleaners Service Project - we sent 100 volunteers to Gleaners over the past two weekends to help in miscellaneous jobs, sorting and packing food, etc.
PLUS, all of the great, fun Den activities!!!

Now is your chance to join Cub Scouts! Come learn all about Cubs Scouts and Pack 1014 - and register your son(s).
  • Boys in 1st grade - 5th grade are welcome to join Cub Scouts.
  • All boys are welcome to join Pack 1014, whether you attend Eastover Elementary or not. We have many boys from other neighboring schools in Pack 1014.
Monday, September 12th at 5:30 pm and Wedesday, September 14th at 5:30 pm
Eastover Elementary (School Cub Scout Booth)

Summer Fun!

There are lots of great activities going on this summer. Each boy that participates in at least one activity in June, July and August will earn the Summertime Award.
  • July 8-11th Webelos Resident Camp
  • July 15th - Annual Kick Ball Game @ 6:30 pm
  • July 24th - Bike Ride @ 6:30 pm
  • July 26-29th - Webelos Resident Camp
  • Aug 1st - Service Project @ 9:00 am @ Eastover
  • Aug 12th - Pool Party (late afternoon/early evening) - date/location pending
  • Aug 15th - Service Project @ 9:00 am @ Eastover
  • Aug 22nd - 23rd - Campout @ Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing
    • Watch the Lugnuts vs. Hot Rods baseball game, watch a movie on the jumbo tron, and then sleep on the baseball field over night.

2015 Family Camping Trip !!!

Arrive Friday night at D-A Scout Ranch in Metamora and set up your tent or roll our your sleeping bag in a squeaky bunk bed in the cabin. Bring the whole family if you like, or bring your son(s). We're staying at the Johnstone Campsite again, which is a great campsite right on a lake (lots of fishing and other planned events).

Cost and Payment:

The cost will be consistent with last year at $50 per family.  This cost will cover your food, your activities, and your camping.  Payment should be submitted to your Den leader or to Ryan Talbott. Checks should be made out to Cub Scout Pack 1014.
Registration:
You'll receive a Signup Genius email invitation soon. Register by Saturday, May 9th.
Logistics and Misc:
The camp is located at 880 E. Sutton Road; Metamora, Michigan 48455. Check-in to camp will be after 5:30 pm on Friday the 15th, and we will be out Sunday morning the 17th after clean-up is completed.
Food:  Snack will be provided Friday night; Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks on Saturday; and continental Breakfast on Sunday 
To begin your preparations, you will want to start planning to bring the following items:
- Your family tent and a tarp to place it on. There are bunk beds available in the camp site’s cabin if you choose not to use a tent this weekend.
- Sleeping Bag, sleeping mat, pillow, extra blanket, towel and wash cloth;  clothes according to weather including warm-ups for bed and an extra pair of pants and socks and shoes or boots that you don’t mind getting muddy.  Always bring something warm to wear (dress in layers) and a rain jacket or poncho.  Also, bring your personal toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, tissues, shampoo, and soap), flashlight, water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
You may want to bring other items including: First aid kit for the group, a lantern, a compass, fishing gear (fishing pole, hooks, etc), and sports items (e.g. footballs, soccer balls, etc.) We will plan on a fire each night.

Pinewood Derby Workshop

The Pinewood Derby is Saturday, Feb 28th, it'll be here before you know it.

For those of you that'd like some help building your derby car, come join us on Sunday, Feb 8th for the Pinewood Derby Workshop.

    When: Sunday, Feb 8th from 12 noon to 2pm  

    Where: Fox Hills Community Club House

Expert builders and tools will be on hand to help you shape and build a super race car. We'll even have a test track to help tune your car. There will be extra kits available for purchase (parents, siblings).  

 

Note that kids from the Fox Hills community are invited as well so this might be a great outreach event.


Marc LeDuc and Dan Champoux will be heading this up. We'll be looking for other parents to help out and especially to help clean up at 2pm. 

Klondike - Saturday, Jan 31st

The Klondike is a half-day of outdoor winter fun and competition. All Scouts will work in dens and rotate through five activities and a hot dog lunch. Each Scout will also receive a patch. The goal of the Klondike is to have fun, with a little competition mixed in. Pack 1014 covers the cost and provides competition materials. Note: At tonight's Pack meeting, I said siblings are welcome, but I was wrong. In order to participate, boys must be a registered Cub Scout. Sorry for the confusion.

On Sunday, January 25th, we'll be practicing for the Klondike. We'll be at Eastover from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

1st Pack Meeting of the School Year

Come join us Wednesday, Sept 17th at 6:30 pm at Eastover for our first Pack Meeting of the school year.
  • If you're a new Scout, you'll be able to learn about our great Pack and become a member.
  • If you're a returning Scout, you can register for the upcoming year.
The boys will build their very own marshmallow shooter, and have FUN shooting marshmallows. Boys will also receive awards earned over the summer.

Movie Night - Thursday, Aug 28th

Our August Pack 1014 Event will be a Movie Night. The Dionisio family has generously offered to host this backyard event complete with the big screen and popcorn. We plan to have some fun activities/games, including a bonfire, prior to the start of the movie. Feel free to bring a friend interested in Scouting and your siblings. 

Day: Thursday, August 28
Time: 7:30 pm. Movie starts at dusk around 8:30 pm.

Please bring a lawn chair or blanket for the movie. See you there!
